Several Singapore family places close on Mondays: Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden, the Science Centre and KidsSTOP, the water play area and Vertical Challenge at Coastal PlayGrove, and Clusia Cove at Jurong Lake Gardens all reopen on public holiday Mondays, while Forest Ramble at Jurong Lake Gardens is listed as closed every Monday for maintenance. The Children’s Garden at Gardens by the Bay and Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park’s water playground list only Thursday to Sunday and public holidays (plus Tuesdays in school holidays at the Children’s Garden). Mandai’s five wildlife parks and PIP’s PLAYbox list daily opening.
This is a dated rule list, not a live timetable. Each row links to the operator’s own page, first read on 3 October 2026 and reread on 17 October 2026, with its update date where it shows one; two NParks pages are dated 2024. Places whose pages we could not read are left out. More ideas are in our days out topic.
At a glance
- Closed on Mondays unless a public holiday: Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden; Science Centre Singapore and KidsSTOP (also open on gazetted school holidays); Coastal PlayGrove water play area and Vertical Challenge; Clusia Cove at Jurong Lake Gardens (per its own page).
- Closed every Monday for maintenance: Forest Ramble at Jurong Lake Gardens (its Play page mentions no public holiday opening).
- Thursday–Sunday and public holidays: the Children’s Garden at Gardens by the Bay (Tuesday–Sunday in its school holidays); Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park water playground.
- Open every day: Singapore Zoo, Bird Paradise, River Wonders, Rainforest Wild Adventure, Night Safari, the Gardens by the Bay conservatories (bar monthly maintenance closures) and PIP’s PLAYbox.
- Next Monday public holiday: 9 November 2026 per MOE (Deepavali is Sunday 8 November). Reread: 17 October 2026.
Which family places are closed on Mondays?
Five places state a Monday closure. Jacob Ballas, the Science Centre, Coastal PlayGrove and Clusia Cove’s own page name public holidays as an exception; the Jurong Lake Gardens Play page, which also covers Forest Ramble, does not.
- Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden (Singapore Botanic Gardens): closed on Mondays except a designated public holiday. Open 8am–7pm, last admission 6.30pm; no entry fee. The Tree House is closed for termite damage, and the page hopes to welcome visitors back to a new one around the end of 2027. Reread 17 October 2026; page updated 25 September 2026. NParks: Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden. See also our Jacob Ballas listing.
- Science Centre Singapore: Monday “Closed (except for Public Holidays and the gazetted school holidays)”; Tuesday–Sunday 10am–5pm, last admission 4.15pm. KidsSTOP has the same Monday rule and requires a pre-booked date and time. The page still listed Snow City’s hours on 21 October 2026, but Snow City has closed: its own website says it “has permanently closed on 30 September 2026”, the date in a 19 May 2026 release on the Science Centre’s press releases page. Reread 17 and 21 October 2026; no update date. Science Centre Singapore opening hours.
- Coastal PlayGrove, East Coast Park Area B: the water play area (age 5–12) is open 8am–8pm Tuesday–Sunday and on public-holiday Mondays; Vertical Challenge, in the play tower (listed for age 13 and above), is open 8am–10pm on the same days. Both close on other Mondays for maintenance. The slides (daily 8am–10pm) and nature playgarden (24 hours) list no Monday closure, but East Coast Park’s main page says sections of the nature playgarden are closed from 30 April to 31 October 2026 for maintenance works. Reread 17 October 2026; the PlayGrove page was updated 14 June 2024, the park page 27 January 2026. NParks: Coastal PlayGrove.
- Jurong Lake Gardens, Clusia Cove and Forest Ramble: the Play page (updated 17 September 2026) says both are closed every Monday for maintenance, and on a Tuesday if the Monday before was a public holiday. Clusia Cove’s own page (updated 13 September 2026) gives its hours as Tuesday to Sunday and public holidays, 8am–7pm, closed every Monday for maintenance except public holidays, and closed on a Tuesday after a public holiday Monday. On 3 October a notice also listed Clusia Cove as closed for maintenance until further notice; on 17 October that notice named only Waterwall Court and the Sunken Garden toilet.
Which places open only on some days?
Neither page lists Monday except as a public holiday, so (our reading) both are shut on other Mondays.
- Children’s Garden, Gardens by the Bay: Thursday–Sunday and public holidays, 9am–7pm (last admission 6pm; water play closes 6.30pm). In school holidays, Tuesday–Sunday, 9am–7pm, with Tuesday closed if the preceding Monday is a public holiday. The hours page counts Youth Day, Teachers’ Day, Children’s Day, the day after National Day and the March, June, September and December Term Breaks as school holidays. Reread 17 October 2026; no update date. Gardens by the Bay: opening hours and closures. The garden’s own attraction page words the Tuesday rule “public/school holiday”, so confirm which applies.
- Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park water playground: operates Thursday–Sunday and on public holidays, 8am–11am and 4pm–8pm. The inclusive and adventure playgrounds on the same page are open 24 hours. Reread 17 October 2026; page updated 27 February 2024. NParks: Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park playgrounds
Which family places are open every day?
These pages list daily opening, so Monday is a normal day.
- Mandai’s five wildlife parks (all reread 17 October 2026; no update date): Singapore Zoo 8.30am–6pm; Bird Paradise, River Wonders and Rainforest Wild Adventure 9am–6pm, all with last entry 5pm; Night Safari 6pm–12am, last entry 11.15pm (Mandai’s itinerary page says opening is 6.30pm).
- Gardens by the Bay conservatories: Cloud Forest and Flower Dome 9am–9pm, Floral Fantasy 10am–9pm, each “closed once a month for maintenance”. The outdoor gardens are listed daily from 5am to 2am. Reread 17 October 2026. Gardens by the Bay: opening hours and closures
- PIP’s PLAYbox, Esplanade level 4: Monday–Sunday, 11am–6pm, closed for cleaning 2pm–3pm. Admission is free and for Esplanade&Me members (non-members can sign up for the free Discover membership beforehand); everyone, including infants in arms, registers at the entrance, and children must be accompanied by adults. Its only listed closure, for the Formula 1 weekend of 8 to 12 October 2026, has passed, per Esplanade’s general advisory. Reread 17 October 2026; no update date. Esplanade: PIP’s PLAYbox. See also our PIP’s PLAYbox listing. For a half-day plan around the 2pm–3pm closure, see our Esplanade with kids guide.
“Daily” does not mean every exhibit is open. On 17 October 2026 the Mandai park pages listed dated closures that will lapse, among them the African Penguin exhibit at Singapore Zoo (to 30 November), Egg Splash at Bird Paradise (from 2.30pm on 10 November until 12 November), Canopy Jump at Rainforest Wild Adventure (12 October–1 November) and the Fishing Cat exhibit on Night Safari’s Pangolin Trail (to 31 December), and each carried a haze notice. To choose between parks, see which Mandai park to visit first; for an evening visit, see Night Safari with young children.
When are the Gardens by the Bay maintenance days?
The hours page now lists whole-day closures for 2026 and 2027, and says only one cooled conservatory closes at a time. The conservatory dates still ahead in 2026 after 17 October are:
- Cloud Forest: Monday 26 October; Tuesday 17 November.
- Floral Fantasy: Tuesday 3 November; Tuesday 1 December.
- Flower Dome: Monday 16 November.
Two of these fall on a Monday: Cloud Forest on 26 October and Flower Dome on 16 November. Of the 2027 conservatory dates listed, only one is a Monday: Flower Dome on 24 May 2027 (our weekday check).
Which Mondays are the exceptions?
Public holidays. The next Monday public holiday is 9 November 2026. The Ministry of Education’s (MOE) 2026 school calendar states plainly that “Monday, 9 November 2026 will be a public holiday”; the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) lists Deepavali on Sunday 8 November and says Monday 9 November will be a public holiday if your rest day falls on 8 November. None of the operator pages mentions 9 November itself, so confirm its hours first. Sources: MOM public holidays, last updated 19 June 2026; MOE school terms and holidays for 2026, published 30 July 2025.
The Tuesday after. The Coastal PlayGrove water play area, Forest Ramble and Clusia Cove, and the Gardens by the Bay Children’s Garden on its school-holiday Tuesdays close the Tuesday after a Monday public holiday.
School holidays. The Science Centre page opens Mondays in “gazetted school holidays” without defining the term. MOE’s 2026 calendar for primary and secondary schools lists scheduled school holidays on Monday 6 July (Youth Day), Friday 4 September and Friday 2 October (primary only); Term IV runs to Friday 20 November and the year-end vacation from Saturday 21 November to Thursday 31 December. Whether the Science Centre counts that vacation is not stated, so ask it (+65 6425 2500) before planning a Monday in December. The Gardens by the Bay page names the “December” term break without saying whether late November counts, and lists no Monday opening in school holidays. See our year-end school holidays plan.
Worked example: Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 November 2026. Our reading of the rules as written, not an operator notice, which would override it.
- Monday 9 November: the Monday rules lift at Jacob Ballas, the Science Centre and KidsSTOP, Coastal PlayGrove (water play and Vertical Challenge), Clusia Cove (by its own page), the Gardens by the Bay Children’s Garden and the Bishan-Ang Mo Kio water playground, because each lists public holidays among its open days and MOE calls the day a public holiday.
- Tuesday 10 November: the Coastal PlayGrove water play area, Forest Ramble and Clusia Cove close under the Tuesday rule. Term IV is still running, so the Children’s Garden and the Bishan-Ang Mo Kio water playground keep their Thursday–Sunday pattern and are shut. Jacob Ballas, the Science Centre and Vertical Challenge (whose page states the Tuesday closure only for the water play area) follow their normal Tuesday opening. KidsSTOP does too, except from 10am to 1pm, when its families page lists a private-event closure.
- Unknown from the pages: whether Forest Ramble opens on the Monday (the Play page never says it opens on a public holiday Monday, and Clusia Cove’s page, which does, says nothing about Forest Ramble), and whether the Science Centre counts year-end vacation Mondays as “gazetted school holidays”.
What should I check before setting out?
Copy this list into the family chat the day before.
- Is the Monday a public holiday? Check MOM’s list; the next is 9 November 2026.
- Is it the Tuesday after a Monday public holiday? The Coastal PlayGrove water play area and the Jurong Lake Gardens play areas close then, and so does the Children’s Garden in school holidays.
- Is it a school holiday? The Science Centre and the Gardens by the Bay Children’s Garden both change their days.
- How old is the page? Coastal PlayGrove (14 June 2024) and Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park (27 February 2024) show 2024 dates, so confirm with NParks on the day.
- Is there a notice? On 17 October 2026 there were notices for Waterwall Court and a toilet at Jurong Lake Gardens, the Jacob Ballas Tree House, the Coastal PlayGrove nature playgarden, Mandai exhibits and haze, and Gardens by the Bay maintenance days.
- Do you need a slot? KidsSTOP asks guests to pre-book and lists private-event closure mornings on 10, 11 and 19 November 2026; PIP’s PLAYbox asks everyone to register.
Decide the fallback before you leave with our Plan B for family outings, and use Plan a family day out to leave room in the day.
Common questions
Is the Science Centre Singapore open on Mondays?
Its opening hours page, reread on 17 October 2026, says it is closed on Mondays except for public holidays and the gazetted school holidays; it opens Tuesday–Sunday 10am–5pm, last admission 4.15pm.
Which family places in Singapore are open on a Monday?
On the pages we reread on 17 October 2026, Mandai’s five wildlife parks and PIP’s PLAYbox list daily opening, the Gardens by the Bay conservatories open daily apart from monthly maintenance closures, and Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park’s inclusive and adventure playgrounds are open 24 hours.
Does a Monday public holiday mean everything is open?
No. A public holiday reopens Jacob Ballas, the Science Centre, Coastal PlayGrove and, by its own page, Clusia Cove for that Monday, but the Coastal PlayGrove water play area and the Jurong Lake Gardens play areas close on the Tuesday after. The Jurong Lake Gardens pages do not say whether Forest Ramble opens on the Monday itself.
