MOE School Terms 2027: Term Dates, Holidays and Closures

MOE school terms 2027 run from Monday, 4 January to Friday, 19 November 2027 for MOE primary schools (including MOE Kindergartens) and secondary schools, in four terms: 4 January–12 March, 22 March–28 May, 28 June–3 September and 13 September–19 November. Primary 1 and Kindergarten 1 start on Monday, 4 January; Primary 2 to 6 and Kindergarten 2 start on Tuesday, 5 January.

This page is a dated calendar, first checked on 3 October 2026 and rechecked on 17 October 2026 against MOE’s School Terms and Holidays for 2027 release (published 14 July 2026) and the Ministry of Manpower’s (MOM) public holiday list (last updated 19 June 2026). It lists dates only, plus the three off-in-lieu days when MOE says student care centres and KCare centres close with schools. What are the MOE school terms for 2027?

MOE’s release applies these dates to all MOE primary and secondary schools and MOE Kindergartens, in two semesters:

• Term I (Semester I): Mon 4 Jan – Fri 12 Mar 2027
• Term II (Semester I): Mon 22 Mar – Fri 28 May 2027
• Term III (Semester II): Mon 28 Jun – Fri 3 Sep 2027
• Term IV (Semester II): Mon 13 Sep – Fri 19 Nov 2027

Schools that will be used as venues for the Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education (SEC) written examinations finish Term IV earlier, on Fri 29 Oct 2027.

Junior colleges (JC) and Millennia Institute (MI) share the Term II and Term III dates above but differ at the start and end of the year:

• JC Year 1 and MI Year 1: Term I from Wed 3 Feb to Fri 12 Mar; Term IV from Mon 13 Sep to Fri 26 Nov.
• MI Year 2: Term I from Mon 11 Jan to Fri 12 Mar; Term IV from Mon 13 Sep to Fri 26 Nov.
• JC Year 2 and MI Year 3: Term I from Mon 11 Jan to Fri 12 Mar; Term IV from Mon 13 Sep to the end of the GCE A-Level examinations.

Which day does my child start school in January 2027?

MOE’s release says Primary 1 and Kindergarten 1 start on Mon 4 Jan 2027, and Primary 2 to 6 and Kindergarten 2 start on Tue 5 Jan 2027; its footnote names no other levels. For secondary schools the table gives only the shared Term I start of Mon 4 Jan, and the JC and MI Term I start dates are in the list above. The release gives no reporting times, so check your child’s school notice for the first morning.

When are the school vacations in 2027?

MOE lists four vacation periods for 2027. For MOE Kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools:

• Between Terms I and II: Sat 13 Mar – Sun 21 Mar
• Between Semesters I and II: Sat 29 May – Sun 27 Jun
• Between Terms III and IV: Sat 4 Sep – Sun 12 Sep
• At the end of the school year: Sat 20 Nov – Fri 31 Dec

For JC Year 1, MI Year 1 and MI Year 2, the first three vacations are the same and the year-end vacation runs Sat 27 Nov – Fri 31 Dec. For JC Year 2 and MI Year 3, it runs from the end of the GCE A-Level examinations to Fri 31 Dec.

Which days are school holidays and public holidays in 2027?

MOE lists scheduled school holidays separately from public holidays. None of the four scheduled school holidays appears on MOM’s public holiday list.

• Youth Day, Sun 4 Jul 2027: MOE says the following Mon 5 Jul will be a school holiday.
• Day after National Day, Tue 10 Aug 2027.
• Teachers’ Day, Fri 3 Sep 2027: the last day of Term III.
• Children’s Day, Fri 8 Oct 2027: for primary schools and primary sections of full schools only.

MOM’s public holiday list (last updated 19 June 2026) and its 18 June 2026 press release give the same 11 gazetted dates, which MOE’s release groups by term:

• New Year’s Day, Fri 1 Jan: filed under Term I, though the school year begins on Mon 4 Jan.
• Chinese New Year, Sat 6 and Sun 7 Feb (Term I): MOE and MOM’s press release say Mon 8 Feb will be a public holiday (see the wording difference below); Tue 9 Feb is an off-in-lieu day for schools.
• Hari Raya Puasa, Wed 10 Mar (Term I).
• Good Friday, Fri 26 Mar (Term II).
• Labour Day, Sat 1 May (Term II): Mon 3 May is an off-in-lieu day for schools.
• Hari Raya Haji, Mon 17 May (Term II).
• Vesak Day, Thu 20 May (Term II).
• National Day, Mon 9 Aug (Term III).
• Deepavali, Thu 28 Oct (Term IV).
• Christmas Day, Sat 25 Dec: filed under Term IV, though it falls in the year-end vacation. Mon 27 Dec is an off-in-lieu day for schools.

One wording difference is worth knowing. MOM’s calendar page says Mon 8 Feb is a public holiday “if your rest day falls on 7 February 2027”, while MOM’s press release and MOE’s release both say plainly that Monday, 8 February 2027 will be a public holiday. The pages do not explain the difference and we have not resolved it. For your own leave or pay on that Monday, rely on MOM and your employer.

Which days do schools, student care and KCare all close?

MOE’s release names three off-in-lieu days in 2027 when “Schools, including the General Office, Student Care Centres and KCare Centres, will be closed”:

• Tue 9 Feb 2027: after Chinese New Year (Sat 6 and Sun 7 Feb) and the public holiday on Mon 8 Feb.
• Mon 3 May 2027: after Labour Day on Sat 1 May.
• Mon 27 Dec 2027: after Christmas Day on Sat 25 Dec.

MOE’s KCare page (last updated 30 March 2026) says Kindergarten Care, the full-day service at MOE Kindergartens, runs Monday to Friday until 7pm, including school holidays, and is closed on public holidays, Teachers’ Day, Children’s Day and up to 6 additional days each year. It also says KCare fees are payable during the June and December holidays.

Two points the pages do not settle:

• The 2027 release does not say whether the three off-in-lieu days are among KCare’s “up to 6 additional days”.
• KCare’s page lists Children’s Day as a closure, while MOE’s 2027 table applies Children’s Day to primary schools only. Neither page gives a KCare date for Fri 8 Oct 2027.

For student care centres, the release names only the three days above. Ask your centre for its own 2027 calendar, including the other dates in this calendar.

Which 2027 school closures are not public holidays?

This is our reading of the dates, not a statement by MOE or MOM. These weekdays close schools but are absent from MOM’s public holiday list, so on our reading none is a public holiday.

• Off-in-lieu days: Tue 9 Feb, Mon 3 May and Mon 27 Dec (the last falls in the year-end vacation).
• Mon 5 Jul: school holiday after Youth Day on Sun 4 Jul.
• Tue 10 Aug: Day after National Day.
• Fri 3 Sep: Teachers’ Day.
• Fri 8 Oct: Children’s Day, primary schools and primary sections only.

How do the 2027 dates compare with 2026, and what is left of 2026?

MOE’s School Terms and Holidays for 2026 release (published 30 July 2025) gives this year’s dates. Apart from the start of Term I (Fri 2 Jan 2026, against Mon 4 Jan 2027), each 2027 term opens and closes on the same weekday as its 2026 counterpart, one calendar date earlier. Term IV, for example, runs Mon 14 Sep – Fri 20 Nov in 2026 (our comparison).

Still to come in 2026, from the same release:

• Fri 23 Oct 2026: last day of Term IV for schools used as venues for the GCE O-Level written examinations.
• Mon 9 Nov 2026: MOE says it will be a public holiday, after Deepavali on Sun 8 Nov. MOM’s list words it as a public holiday “if your rest day falls on 8 November 2026”.
• Fri 20 Nov 2026: last day of the school year. The vacation runs Sat 21 Nov – Thu 31 Dec for MOE Kindergartens, primary and secondary schools (see our year-end school holidays plan).
• Fri 25 Dec 2026: Christmas Day, in the vacation.

What does the MOE release not tell you?

• Who and what it covers. MOE schools, MOE Kindergartens, junior colleges and Millennia Institute only: nothing on private or international schools, other kindergartens or childcare centres, and no examination timetable, school events, school-specific closures or student care and KCare opening hours.
• Later changes. It is a snapshot from 14 July 2026. It says the dates are also on MOE’s academic calendar page, but that page’s readable text on 3 and 17 October 2026 showed 2026 entries and we could not read its 2027 view, so this page relies on the release.

3. At the start of each term: your school’s own calendar for school-specific closures and events.
4. Before relying on student care or KCare on any date above: the centre’s own 2027 calendar, especially Fri 8 Oct and any “additional days”.
