For a first visit to the Mandai Wildlife Reserve with children, choose the one park whose main attraction your child will want to spend the day on, and treat the others as separate trips. Our rule of thumb, not Mandai’s: take under-12s who like animals and play to Singapore Zoo or Bird Paradise, which each list children’s play areas and a complimentary tram or shuttle; pick River Wonders for river animals and a boat ride; choose Rainforest Wild Adventure for children who want to climb and bounce; and keep Night Safari, which runs until midnight with its trails and tram from 7pm, for when bedtime allows.
Mandai’s home page lists five wildlife parks, each with its own hours and ticket page. This guide uses Mandai’s pages as rechecked on 17 October 2026 and flags closures that could change your choice in the coming weeks. For a rainy-day option, see our Exploria or Curiosity Cove guide.
At a glance
- Hours: Singapore Zoo is open daily 8.30am–6pm. River Wonders, Bird Paradise and Rainforest Wild Adventure are open daily 9am–6pm. Last entry is 5pm at all four. Night Safari is open daily until 12am, with last entry at 11.15pm and the walking trails and tram from 7pm; its park page gives opening as 6pm and its itinerary page as 6.30pm, so check when you book.
- Child prices for Singapore residents on a regular day (ages 3–12): Zoo S$27, River Wonders S$26, Bird Paradise S$27, Rainforest Wild Adventure S$32, Night Safari S$32. Adult prices range from S$35 to S$48. Mandai lists these as WildPass-holder rates (free sign-up) beside higher usual prices, for example S$49 for an adult and S$34 for a child at the Zoo.
- Under 3: free when accompanied by an adult above 21 holding a ticket to the same attraction, according to Mandai’s ticket pages.
- Haze notice: Mandai’s announcements page carries a notice for every park from 1 October to 14 November 2026: “Guests are advised to limit prolonged or strenuous outdoor activity, with extra care for children, older adults and those with heart or lung conditions.” Check the day’s readings before you go; our haze guide for outdoor plans explains which reading to use.
- Passes: Mandai’s promotions page lists its Destination Passes for non-residents (two attractions: adult S$88, child S$60). A separate 2-Attraction Pass for WildPass holders runs to 31 March 2027; we did not read its terms.
Which Mandai park should children visit first?
Mandai’s descriptions follow, with our reading marked.
Singapore Zoo. Mandai’s page lists KidzWorld, with Splish Splash (a wet play zone) and Ranger Buddies Quest, plus animal feeding, keeper talks and presentations. A complimentary tram is included in admission. Our reading: the easiest first visit for a child who wants animals and play in one place, and it opens half an hour before the other day parks. Check the park page for the day’s show and feeding times.
Bird Paradise. More than 3,500 birds from over 400 species across eight walk-through aviaries, with Egg Splash (a wet playground with water slides and shallow pools), Treetop Play (trampolines and climbing nets), a complimentary in-park shuttle and a presentation called Wings of the World. Our reading: good for children who like to alternate watching with running about.
River Wonders. Mandai describes more than 11,000 animals from 260 species, with manatees and capybaras among them, and an Amazon River Quest boat ride. If the pandas are the draw, read the closure notice closely: it is the House of Kai Kai & Jia Jia Retail Shop that is closed for renovation from 14 September to 30 November 2026. Meanwhile the panda exhibit’s entrance and exit move beside the current entrance and a temporary Panda Shop opens inside it; neither the River Wonders nor the announcements page says the exhibit itself is closed. River Wonders also listed Quiet Mornings, opening an hour early “in support of inclusivity” on 17 and 18 October, with registration; the page gave no later dates when we checked.
Rainforest Wild Adventure. Two zones (EAST and WEST) and, says Mandai’s wildlife parks FAQ, elevated walkways that suit many guests, including families with strollers, though some forest treks and adventure activities are more rugged. Admission includes up to five of its nine Adventure+ activities on a regular day (Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays) and up to three on a peak day (Saturday, Sunday and public holidays), according to the ticket page. Each activity has its own height, weight, attire and safety requirements. The Lemur Playground trampolines are not one of them: Mandai lists them under Kids’ Play at Lemur Land in the EAST zone. Covered shoes are compulsory for the adventure activities. For a half-day plan in the EAST zone built around the okapi, see our Rainforest Wild Adventure okapi guide.
Night Safari. Its Know Before You Go page gives the Safari Adventure Tram’s first departure as 7pm and last as 11.20pm (a ride takes about 30 minutes), and says no flash photography and children must be supervised at all times. The Night Safari page says all guests and members must choose a time slot, though Mandai’s announcements page says Destination Pass holders have not needed one since 1 July 2026. The pages we read give no minimum age, so judge the late hours against your child’s bedtime. For an evening plan, see our Night Safari guide for young children.
What would a family day cost? A worked example
This group is illustrative: two adults, a five-year-old and a two-year-old, all Singapore residents booking at the WildPass rates Mandai lists. The two-year-old is free in every case; a three-year-old would pay the child price. Using the resident prices on the ticket pages for Singapore Zoo, Bird Paradise, River Wonders, Rainforest Wild Adventure and Night Safari:
- Singapore Zoo: regular day (Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays) 2 × S$39 + S$27 = S$105; peak day (Saturday, Sunday and public holidays) 2 × S$44 + S$30 = S$118.
- Bird Paradise: the same prices as the Zoo, so S$105 regular and S$118 peak.
- River Wonders: regular 2 × S$35 + S$26 = S$96; peak 2 × S$40 + S$29 = S$109.
- Rainforest Wild Adventure: regular 2 × S$45 + S$32 = S$122; peak 2 × S$50 + S$35 = S$135.
- Night Safari: Sunday to Thursday (excluding public holidays and their eves) 2 × S$48 + S$32 = S$128; Friday, Saturday, public holidays and their eves 2 × S$52 + S$36 = S$140.
Prices include 9% GST and can change without notice. The totals leave out transport, food, hire and promotions; check that your booking shows the WildPass rate.
How do you get there with a pram or a tired child?
By MRT and bus, Mandai’s getting-here page lists the M2 Khatib Bus from Khatib MRT (NS14), bus 927 from Choa Chu Kang MRT (NS4) and bus 138 from Ang Mo Kio MRT (NS16) or Springleaf MRT (TE4). The M2 costs S$2.50 for adults and children aged 7–12, and children under 7 ride free. It runs about every 15 minutes (every 20 minutes between 11pm and midnight), the ride takes about 20 minutes, the first bus from Khatib MRT is at 8.30am and the last at 11.40pm, and payment is contactless only. Mandai lists these stops to alight at: “Singapore Zoo (48131)” for Mandai Wildlife EAST, or “Opp Bird Paradise (48111)” or “Bird Paradise (48119)” for WEST.
One inference of ours: the first M2 bus leaves Khatib MRT at 8.30am and the ride takes about 20 minutes, so that bus cannot get you to the Zoo for its 8.30am opening. The page gives no first-bus times for buses 927 and 138, so check those, plan another route or accept a later start. Car parks have a 2.1m height limit. Taxis are available at designated stands at Mandai Wildlife EAST (Exit 3) and Mandai Wildlife WEST (Exit 2, Door A), and Mandai’s announcements page lists a S$5 surcharge on taxi departures from the reserve between 1pm and 11.59pm daily.
On the grounds, Mandai’s services FAQ says it rents trikes, wagons and strollers as an add-on through the ticketing portal. The Know Before You Go pages for Singapore Zoo, Bird Paradise, River Wonders and Rainforest Wild Adventure list wagon hire at S$18 (up to two children, combined maximum 35kg), online or on site. You must fold your own stroller and put it in the designated zone for the tram at Singapore Zoo or Night Safari, the shuttle at Bird Paradise and the Amazon River Quest boat at River Wonders. The services FAQ also lists nursing rooms and diaper-changing facilities at all five attractions, lockers at each, and complimentary wheelchairs at park entrances on a first-come, first-served basis.
Which closures and notices could change your choice?
Mandai lists these on its park and announcements pages as of 17 October 2026. Recheck on the day.
- Every park, 1 October to 14 November 2026: the haze notice above, asking guests to limit prolonged or strenuous outdoor activity, with extra care for children.
- Singapore Zoo: African Penguin exhibit closed for upgrading 31 August–30 November 2026; KidzWorld Animal Friends Show cancelled 19–20 October; Elephants of Asia exhibit closed on 29 October 2026, with the 11.30am Elephant Presentation and Feeding sessions unavailable.
- Bird Paradise: American Flamingo health check-ups from 5pm on 20 October to 9am on 21 October; Egg Splash closed from 2.30pm on 10 November until 12 November 2026.
- River Wonders: House of Kai Kai & Jia Jia Retail Shop closed for renovation 14 September–30 November 2026, with the panda exhibit’s entrance and exit moved beside the current entrance.
- Rainforest Wild Adventure: Tiger Waterfall Habitat closed 5 October–2 November (Mandai says the tigers can be seen along the Forest Floor Trek and Predator Trek); Canopy Jump closed 12 October–1 November 2026; crowds and longer Adventure+ waits expected on 31 October.
- Night Safari: Fishing Cat exhibit in Pangolin Trail closed for refurbishment 7 October–31 December 2026.
- 2 November and 7 December 2026: some midday feeding sessions, keeper talks and ranger talks are unavailable at Singapore Zoo, Bird Paradise and Rainforest Wild Adventure because of internal events.
What about a wet day or a second trip?
Mandai’s Know Before You Go pages say most of River Wonders is under shelter, and the Zoo’s page suggests it for wet weather. Shelter keeps off rain, not haze (our note).
The two indoor attractions are at Mandai Wildlife EAST, 80 Mandai Lake Road. Exploria’s page lists 12pm–8pm on weekdays (last entry 7pm) and 11am–9pm on weekends and public holidays (last entry 8pm). Curiosity Cove’s page sells timed play sessions (on 3 October 2026 every session that day showed sold out), and Mandai says its 5.30pm session is unavailable on selected Fridays to Sundays until 1 November for a Halloween event, so book early; our guide to choosing an indoor playground explains what to compare. Keep a swap ready using our Plan B guide, and see the year-end school holidays plan for where a paid Mandai day fits among free days. More ideas are under days out.
What to check before you go
- Today’s hours and notices on the park’s own page and Mandai’s announcements page.
- Whether your date is a regular or peak day for that park; Night Safari’s peak days differ from the day parks’. The ticket pages do not mention school holidays, so on our reading school-holiday weekdays are regular days at the day parks; confirm when you book.
- Each child’s age on the day (under 3 is free; 3–12 pays the child price).
- The haze notice and NEA’s readings for the day, before an outdoor park.
- Stroller plan: fold zones for trams, shuttles and boat rides, or rent a stroller or wagon.
- Seats for Night Safari’s Creatures of the Night and River Wonders’ Once Upon a River presentations, which Mandai says must be booked online, from two hours before each show.
- Covered shoes for Rainforest Wild Adventure’s adventure activities, and a change of clothes for the wet play zones (our suggestion, not Mandai’s).
- A fallback for rain or a tired child.
Common questions
Can toddlers enter Mandai’s wildlife parks for free?
Mandai’s ticket pages say children below 3, by date of birth, enter free when accompanied by an adult above 21 holding a ticket to the same attraction. Children aged 3–12 pay the child price.
How much are child tickets at Mandai’s wildlife parks?
For Singapore residents on a regular day, Mandai lists WildPass-holder child tickets at S$26 for River Wonders, S$27 for Singapore Zoo and Bird Paradise, and S$32 for Rainforest Wild Adventure and Night Safari. Peak days cost S$29 to S$36.
How do I get to Mandai Wildlife Reserve by public transport?
Mandai lists the M2 Khatib Bus from Khatib MRT (NS14), bus 927 from Choa Chu Kang MRT and bus 138 from Ang Mo Kio or Springleaf MRT. The M2 costs S$2.50 for adults and children aged 7 to 12, and children under 7 ride free.
Can I bring my own stroller to Mandai?
Mandai says its five wildlife parks are designed to be stroller friendly, but you must fold your stroller and use the designated zone for trams, shuttles and the River Wonders boat ride. Curiosity Cove does not allow strollers or wagons inside its play area. Rentals are an add-on at booking or available on site.
