Plan a half-day at Singapore Zoo with a toddler around one or two of the Zoo’s daily shows, and spend the rest on KidzWorld, lunch and a rest. Mandai lists four Zoo presentations, starting at 10.30am, 11am, 12pm, 2pm, 2.30pm, 4pm and 5pm and lasting 10–20 minutes each, plus an orangutan talk at 11am and 3.30pm. Among these, the only same-time clash is at 11am, when Animal Friends and the orangutan talk start together.
With a toddler, the shows are fixed and naps, lunch and the walk between venues are not. Below are the shows in clock order with the clash marked, three illustrative routes and a plain-words facilities list. This guide leaves out ticket prices and closures, which our Mandai Wildlife Reserve guide covers. For an evening visit, see our Night Safari plan for young children.
At a glance
- Hours: daily 8.30am–6pm, last entry 5pm, according to the Zoo’s page.
- Time to allow: about four hours for 11 highlights, says Mandai’s itinerary page.
- Shows: 10–20 minutes, daily, per the presentations page; the Animal Friends, Into the Wild and Splash Safari pages add “weather permitting”, and the Dance Your Heart Out! entry has no weather note.
- Last tram: 5.30pm (Station 1) to 6.15pm (Station 4). The tram is complimentary with unlimited rides, per Know Before You Go.
What are the Singapore Zoo show times, and which ones clash?
Mandai’s presentations page lists four Zoo shows, all daily. The orangutan talk, which the itinerary page calls The Great Ape Hangout and the keeper talks page the Orangutan Keeper Talk, is not on that list but competes for the same minutes. The keeper talks page also lists many other Zoo talks (for example a Primate Kingdom talk at 11am and 2pm and a Proboscis Monkey talk at 11.30am), so this grid covers only the four presentations and the orangutan talk. In clock order:
- 10.30am: Splash Safari, Shaw Amphitheatre (a sea lion show)
- 11am: Animal Friends, Animal Buddies Theatre, KidzWorld (Mandai describes the cast two ways, see below)
- 11am: The Great Ape Hangout, Orangutan Island (clashes with Animal Friends)
- 12pm: Into the Wild, Shaw Amphitheatre
- 2pm: Animal Friends, KidzWorld
- 2.30pm: Into the Wild, Shaw Amphitheatre
- 3.30pm: The Great Ape Hangout, Orangutan Island
- 4pm: Dance Your Heart Out!, Animal Buddies Theatre, KidzWorld
- 5pm: Splash Safari, Shaw Amphitheatre
KidzWorld’s page also lists a Pack Walk at 4.15pm from the KidzWorld entrance, weather permitting. A 4pm dance show that runs its full 20 minutes could overlap its start.
One cancellation to know. On 17 October 2026 the notices on the Zoo’s page said the KidzWorld Animal Friends show will be cancelled on 19 and 20 October 2026 for upgrading works. On those two days there is no 11am clash, and Route 2 below needs a different anchor, such as Into the Wild at 12pm.
At 11am, choose one. Each has a second slot, Animal Friends at 2pm and the orangutans at 3.30pm, so skipping one still leaves a later slot if you can stay into the afternoon. Three pairs of start times are 30 minutes apart (10.30am and 11am, 2pm and 2.30pm, 3.30pm and 4pm), and each pair changes venue. The Mandai pages we read give no walking times, so check the attraction map on the Zoo’s page before trusting a 30-minute gap with a toddler. That caution is ours.
Three details. First, Mandai’s pages differ on the 12pm and 2.30pm Shaw Amphitheatre show. The presentations page and the show’s own page call it Into the Wild, and the show’s page names a ring-tailed lemur, hog badger, trumpeter hornbill and Indian crested porcupine. The itinerary page titles the same slot “Our Newest Animal Presentation” and describes “playful and endangered monkeys with their unique long noses and big tummies”, the words it also uses for its separate proboscis monkey stop. Both the presentations page and the show’s page call Into the Wild “our newest animal presentation”, so our inference is that the itinerary heading means Into the Wild and its description was reused by mistake. We follow the show’s own page.
Second, Mandai describes Animal Friends two ways. The presentations and itinerary pages list a “refreshed show” with cats, dogs, goats, parrots and a Falabella horse, while the show’s page lists dogs, birds, mice and cats, so treat the cast as unconfirmed.
Third, Splash Safari’s page promises “a big, wet goodbye wave” from the sea lion and a “super soaker alert”. Staying further back is our suggestion for a toddler who dislikes splashes.
How many shows can a toddler take in half a day?
The Mandai pages we read give no recommended age for the shows, so our rule of thumb is two anchor shows at most. Two shows at 10–20 minutes each take 20–40 minutes, between one-twelfth and one-sixth of the four hours Mandai estimates for a visit. The rest is walking, play, lunch and rest, which a good route protects.
To choose, here is our matching from Mandai’s descriptions. Animal Friends suits pet lovers, and its page invites you to pat and take a photo with its “four-legged stars” afterwards. Dance Your Heart Out! suits children who like to move, since Mandai says they learn dance moves inspired by animals. Splash Safari suits children who like water, the orangutans suit those who want to watch big animals outdoors, and Into the Wild suits those who like a mix of species.
Which half-day route fits your toddler?
These three routes are illustrative. The timings are ours, built only from Mandai’s listed times, and nobody has walked them.
Route 1: morning only (about 8.30am–12.30pm). For a toddler who is at their best early and naps after lunch at home.
- 8.30am: gates open. Kids’ Play lists KidzWorld from 9am.
- 9am–10.15am: KidzWorld, with Splish Splash (the wet play zone), Play Trees and Animal Land, where Mandai says you may meet goats, falabellas or chickens.
- 10.30am: Splash Safari at Shaw Amphitheatre.
- 11am: the orangutans or Animal Friends, whichever is nearer on the map.
- From 11.30am: lunch at KidzWorld Cafe (open from 10.30am Monday to Friday and 10am on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays) or Ah Meng Restaurant, then leave.
Less suitable if reaching the gate for 8.30am is unrealistic. By public transport, our Mandai guide explains why the first bus matters.
Route 2: midday rest (about 10am–3pm). For a toddler who naps around midday.
- 10am: KidzWorld play. A change of clothes for the wet zone is our suggestion.
- 11am: Animal Friends, in KidzWorld, so no walking (not on 19 or 20 October 2026, when it is cancelled).
- 11.45am: lunch.
- 12.30pm–1.45pm: rest. None of the four presentations or the orangutan talk starts between 12.30pm and 2pm. Rent a wagon or stroller if your toddler naps on the move.
- 2.30pm: Into the Wild at Shaw Amphitheatre, then leave about 3pm.
We found no re-entry rule on the pages we read, so do not plan to leave for a nap at home and return unless Guest Relations confirms it.
Route 3: late afternoon (about 2pm–5.30pm). For a toddler who naps at home after lunch.
- By about 2.15pm: inside the gates. Last entry is 5pm, but the shows run from 2pm.
- Choose two of Into the Wild at 2.30pm, the orangutans at 3.30pm and Dance Your Heart Out! at 4pm.
- 4.15pm: Pack Walk from the KidzWorld entrance, weather permitting.
- 5pm: Splash Safari, the last show in the grid. Optional.
Know your tram station before the 5pm show. Station 1’s last tram is 5.30pm. A 20-minute show ends at 5.20pm, leaving ten minutes, while Stations 2–4 run later.
What does the tram do, and when is the last ride?
The tram is complimentary with unlimited rides, and some trams have wheelchair slots. Last tram timings are Station 1 at 5.30pm, Station 2 at 6.05pm, Station 3 at 6.10pm and Station 4 at 6.15pm. The page does not say where each station is, so find yours on the attraction map.
Mandai’s services FAQ says strollers must be folded and placed in the designated zone on the Zoo tram. It does not mention wagons, so ask a Guest Relations Officer first.
Do you need a wagon, and what else is there for little ones?
Mandai’s Know Before You Go page listed wagon rental at S$18 on 17 October 2026, as on 3 October: up to two children with a combined maximum weight of 35kg, first come, first served, online or on site, where Mandai encourages cashless payment. The FAQ says strollers can be rented as an add-on through Mandai’s ticketing portal. We could not open that portal, so we have no stroller price. Our rule, not Mandai’s: consider a wagon for two small children, a child who tires in the first hour, or Route 2’s long day.
The facilities, in words:
- Nursing rooms: KidzWorld, Reptile Kingdom and the main entrance.
- Diaper changing: KidzWorld, the Zoo entrance, the Wildlife Learning Centre, Ah Meng Restaurant, Reptile Kingdom and Pavilion by the Lake.
- First aid: the main entrance and KidzWorld, both with defibrillators.
- Water: refill stations at several points, so bring a bottle.
- Lockers: Mandai’s page places rental lockers at the River Wonders Entrance Plaza and lists their fees.
- Rain gear: ponchos and umbrellas are sold at the gift shops.
- KidzWorld: Animal Land, indoor Little Paws, Animal Buddies Theatre, Play Trees, Splish Splash, a shop and a cafe. The Kids’ Play page also lists a Wild Animal Carousel at KidzWorld with a Buy Tickets button. We could not open Mandai’s ticketing portal, so we give no carousel price.
What about the wild macaques, the heat and the rain?
Mandai says the wild macaques are not part of the Zoo and associate baby prams and plastic bags with food. If they approach, keep all food out of sight, stay calm and walk away. Our suggestion: snacks in a zipped bag, not a plastic carrier on the pram. Know Before You Go gives +65 6100 0767 for emergency assistance and +65 6100 0694 for accidents or untoward encounters with wildlife.
The Animal Friends, Into the Wild and Splash Safari pages say “weather permitting”. The Dance Your Heart Out! entry, as shown on Mandai’s Animal Buddies page, carries no weather note, so check on the day. The itinerary page tags Animal Friends “Good for Rainy Days” and Splish Splash “Can Brave the Light Rain”, and Mandai advises a cap, sunscreen, insect repellent and a raincoat or umbrella. During the October 2026 haze the Zoo’s page also pointed visitors to haze.gov.sg; our haze and PSI guide explains how to plan outdoor time around the readings with a young child. Mandai’s wet-weather tip points to River Wonders, but check our Mandai guide for what is closed there. What to check before you go
- Today’s show times on the presentations page or in the Mandai app, because times can change.
- Which 11am show you are choosing, and which afternoon slot catches the other.
- Your tram station for the end of the day, and its last tram time.
- Wagon or stroller: Mandai lists wagons for rent online or on site, and strollers as an add-on through its ticketing portal. Decide which, and who pushes it.
- The dated notices at the top of the Zoo’s page. On 17 October 2026 they listed the Animal Friends cancellation on 19 and 20 October, the Elephants of Asia exhibit closed on 29 October (with no 11.30am elephant presentation and feeding that day), the African Penguin exhibit closed until 30 November and a haze advisory.
- A bottle, cap, sunscreen, repellent (NEA’s advice on repellent for children is in our dengue prevention at home guide), a change of clothes and snacks in a zipped bag.
- A fallback, written down before you leave. Our one-anchor outing guide shows the approach, and days out has more places.
