PSLE 2026 results and S1 posting: a calm family timeline

For many Primary 6 families, the hard part of PSLE results week is not the number itself. It is turning that number into six secondary school choices within a few days, while everyone is still taking it in.

MOE’s national examinations calendar lists the 2026 PSLE results as tentatively due between Tuesday, 24 November and Wednesday, 25 November. In 2025, according to MOE’s release on that year’s results and posting exercise, the window to submit school choices opened at 11.30am on results day and closed at 4.30pm six days later.

The calmer approach is to agree how your family will decide before the score arrives: which journeys are realistic, what your child wants from a school, and who will submit the form.

What happens in the days after results?

Each PSLE subject is graded in Achievement Levels, and together they make the PSLE Score: lower is better, and 4 is the best possible, as MOE’s scoring explainer sets out. The score decides which Posting Group, 1, 2 or 3, a child can be posted through, as MOE’s posting groups page explains.

The Posting Group shapes where Secondary 1 begins, not where it ends. MOE says students posted through Posting Group 3 start all subjects at G3, the most demanding level, while those in Posting Groups 2 and 1 take most subjects at G2 and G1 respectively. Under Full Subject-Based Banding, students can take subjects at different levels according to their strengths, and schoolmates posted through different groups may go on to study the same subject at the same level.

How do you choose six schools without over-reading cut-off points?

SchoolFinder shows each school’s previous PSLE score range, from the first to the last student admitted through S1 Posting. MOE’s guide to those ranges calls them a reference only, since they reflect the previous cohort’s scores and choices, and says cut-off points can move by a few points a year. In its 2025 release, MOE encouraged families to include at least two to three schools whose previous cut-off points were less stringent than the child’s score.

One way to use that advice is to prepare two lists before results day and add a third afterwards:

1. Journey list: schools your child could reach on an ordinary weekday without the commute taking over; agree what “reasonable” means before looking at scores.
2. Fit list: schools on the journey list whose CCAs, programmes or atmosphere interest your child, based on school websites and open-house materials.
3. Steady picks, after results: two or three journey-list schools whose previous cut-off points are less stringent than the actual score.

When the score arrives, you are ordering familiar names rather than starting a search against a deadline.

A worked example

This family is fictional. In October, Nadia’s parents agree that anything needing more than one change of bus or train is too far for daily travel. Nadia names two CCAs she would like to try. By results day, nine schools meet the journey rule and four of them offer one of her CCAs.

Her score is not the one the family expected. They keep three fit-list schools where her score falls within the previous year’s range, add three steady picks, and ask Nadia to put the six in the order she would be happiest with. Her parents submit on the fourth day of the window, not in its final hour.

The details are invented; the sequence of journey, fit and steady picks is what matters.

Who decides, and how quickly?

A short routine keeps the week humane:

• Results day: share the news, eat together, and leave the form closed unless your list is already settled.
• Next day: adults check the lists against the score; the child gives an honest ranking.
• Before the deadline: submit with a day to spare, so a login problem or late question does not become a crisis. MOE’s 2025 notices say the S1 Portal uses a parent’s Singpass; check it works early.

What happens while you wait for posting results?

In 2025, MOE released posting results on 19 December at 9am through the S1 Portal, by SMS to a local mobile number given in the application, or at the primary school. Students did not need to report to their new school on results day. MOE pointed families to each school’s website for reporting details, booklists, and books and uniform purchases, with students reporting when term started in January.
